Conversation and farewell picnic at IOU/USA October 16 from 1:30-3:00pm at Penn Valley Park. Please join Grand Arts for a lively open-air conversation about the current global economic crises, debt, and the potential for creative strategies to enact change. The discussion will begin with remarks by artist John Salvest; William K. Black, Associate Professor of Law and Economics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City; Stephanie Kelton, Associate Professor of Law and Economics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City; and Larry Meeker, Retired Vice President of the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank. After the discussion we will say farewell to IOU/USA with a bring-your-own picnic at the site. Please bring your own blankets, chairs, and food and drink (no alcohol please).

John Salvest is Professor of Art at Arkansas State University. His work has been presented in solo and group shows throughout the United States. He is the recipient of numerous awards and grants including National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships in 1991 and 1993 and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant in 1998, as well as State Arts Council Fellowships from New Jersey and Arkansas. William K. Black, J.D., Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Economics and Law at the University of Missouri– Kansas City. Professor Black is a white-collar criminologist. He was the Executive Director of the Institute for Fraud Prevention from 2005-2007. Stephanie Kelton, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Research Scholar at The Levy Economics Institute and Director of Graduate Student Research at the Center for Full Employment and Price Stability. Her research expertise is in Federal Reserve operations, fiscal policy, social security, health care, international finance and employment policy. Larry Meeker is Retired Vice President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. He is chair of the Johnson County Public Art Commission and chair of the Friends Board of the Johnson County Museum which is creating plans to become the national museum of suburban history and suburban policy forum. This event is free and open to the public. |
